Adalbert Alois Ackermann, 84, of Bedford NH passed away on February 14th, 2025. He was born in Roeckenwagen, Altoetting, Germany on July 10th, 1940. Al was the son of the late Adalbert Ackermann and Johanna Mueller Ackermann. He was the second oldest of six boys.
Al’s youth was spent living on a farm in Germany until he was eleven, when he was sent to Burghausen, Germany for a better education. He and his late brother Bernie came to the United States in 1958, when he was only 18. He spent his first few years perfecting his English while enlisted in the Navy. After his honorable discharge many years later, he moved to Melrose, Massachusetts, where he met his wife of 50 years, Patricia Ann Williams, and his late stepson Keith. After living with all boys his whole life, he was ecstatic about welcoming a baby girl into the family, Tania, who gave him so much joy. A short while later he welcomed his son, Alan, who would forever more be his best buddy and sidekick. When his grandchildren eventually arrived, they were all girls. Katrina, Ashley, and Anna. Katrina also welcomed into the family three great-grandchildren, Samaria, Niko, and Silas. Al was the best Papa and Opa you could ever imagine.
While his kids were busy with school and sports, Al started his own software company called Massteck Ltd, which specialized in CAD software development, and Keith became his head programmer. He may have worked as a CAD software designer, but his true passion was working with wood and stone. Building anything was what he loved, especially when the kids could be involved. Stone walls, hand carved furniture, a tree house, and rocking horses just to mention a few. His loved ones will always treasure his beautiful German style furniture which will help remind us of his presence.
After retiring, Al and Patricia took on even bigger projects together including fixing up and selling real estate. Patricia helped with design details and beautiful landscaping while Al preferred to work with wood and build stone walls to showcase the home. They both shared the same love of real estate and often joked that one was the carpenter and the other the critic. The family’s love of water and real estate often led to purchasing lake properties and making the most of summer evenings cruising around the lakes in the pontoon boat, or enjoying a cookout.
Al’s life centered around his family and spending time with them was what he did best, but he was really in his element when working with Alan. They shared the same passion for fixing up anything mechanical in need of repair. They filled their weekends working on cars or tractors, going to bike races, and trips to Maine. Later in life it was time spent having good conversations over coffee and breakfast out on the porch.
Al leaves behind loved ones and friends in both Germany and here in the states. We will miss our dear husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He leaves behind many great memories, and we all loved him very much.
Honoring the family’s wishes, a private celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family invites you to make a donation to your favorite charity in Adalbert’s honor.
