Agnes Marshall, 102, of Boscawen, recipient of the Boston Cane, passed away at the Peabody Place in Franklin on September 24, 2023.
She was born on November 12, 1920 in Boscawen to Dora (Miner) McNeil and Donald John McNeil. She was the second of four children and known to friends and family as “Cricket.” She was raised and worked all her life in the Penacook/Boscawen area. She attended the local schools and graduated from Penacook High School in 1939.
After marrying Sumner E. Marshall, she became part of the operations of the “Stone Porch Lodge”, New England Gladiola champions, Marshall Florist Shop, and worked as a secretary for 40 years at N. H. Bituminous Co. until retiring at 79 years old.
Agnes enjoyed time in the kitchen and sewing, cooking “AAA” meals and desserts, like Toll-House cookies, Boston Cream Pies, etc. She often shipped her cookies to soldiers serving overseas and provided meals for passing Hobos. Her love of company meant that visitors were always welcome.
She is survived by her three children; Bonnie Marshall, Bradford Marshall and his wife Kennetha, and Heather Fletcher. She is also survived by five grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
Her family would like to send special thanks to the staff at the Peabody Place in Franklin for all the special care she received while there. Donations may be made in her memory to Peabody Place, 24 Peabody Place, Franklin, NH 03235.
SERVICES: Visiting Hours will be held from 11am to 1pm on Friday, September 29, 2023 at Phaneuf Funeral Home, 172 King Street in Boscawen. A Funeral Service will immediately follow visitation, 1pm, at the Funeral Home. Family and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Interment will follow services at Woodlawn Cemetery in Penacook.
