AGNES H. AMBROSE MOONEY
DALTON, NH Agnes H. Ambrose Mooney, age 92, passed away on April 30, 2009 at the Weeks Medical Center.
Agnes was born on November 1, 1916, a daughter to Jesse and Mabel (Williams) Ambrose in Sandwich, NH. She attended Whiteface School (a local one room school) for grades 1 through 8 and finished 8 grades in 6 years. She then attended The Quimby School (a private High School in Sandwich, NH), after which she went on to Plymouth State College in Plymouth, NH.
Agnes married Howard F. Mooney of Dalton, NH on June 25, 1937, and together they worked on their farm raising horses, cows, and chickens. Howard predeceased her in January 1995. She loved all animals, but her favorite was cats. She was a school teacher in Dalton, Plymouth and Sandwich, NH. Agnes was also employed by the Gilman Paper Co. in Gilman, VT as a Machine Operator & Quality Control Supervisor, Connors & Hoffman Footwear, in Littleton, NH, and Burndy Corporation in Littleton, NH as a Press Operator. She retired in 1988.
She served on the Dalton Planning Board at its inception in the 1960s, as well as the White Mountain Regional School Board from 1991 through 2001. She was a member of the Eagles Auxiliary and was named Mother of the Year by them; she was also a member of the Dalton Historical Society, the Sandwich Historical Society of Sandwich, NH, and the Society for the Preservation of NH Forests. Agnes was an avid reader and enjoyed Local, State and Federal politics. She loved to hunt and shoot with her husband and son, and helped to form the TDG Shooting Club of NH in Dalton, NH in 1998.
Surviving family members include one son, Donald F. and his wife, Nancy Mooney of Dalton, NH; two granddaughters, Pamela J Mooney Kathan of Dalton, NH and Vanessa F. Mooney Jones of East Haven, CT; two great-granddaughters, Heather L. Filgate of Dalton, NH and Ashly F. Bellas of East Haven, CT; and one great-grandson, Gregory T Filgate of New Haven, CT.
