CONCORD - Alexander (Ike) Twombly, 83, passed away at the Hospice house in Concord on May 17, 2023. Ike was born August 31, 1939 in Lawrence, MA. Ike spent his childhood and teen years in North Andover, MA. He attended Brooks Academy and graduated from Amherst College.
After college he hitchhiked to Iowa and spent time working as a brakeman on the
Chicago Northwest Railroad. After a summer on the railroad, Ike enlisted in the US Air Force Officer Training School. He served as a navigator on B-52 Bombers in the USAF Operation Chrome Dome. He left the Air Force as a Captain and subsequently spent his career in Information Technology.
In his retirement Ike enjoyed golf, camping, motorcycling and hiking, completing all the 4,000 footers (mountains) in New England. He especially enjoyed hiking in Switzerland and his trip to Nepal and summiting 18,519’ Kala Patthar. Ike was friendly, funny and cheerful to everyone. It was he, who in his final days, cheered up his visitors.
Ike was predeceased by his twin sister, Anne Twombly Anderson. He is survived by Patricia Twombly, his three sons Peter (Anna) Twombly, Andrew (Deb) Twombly, Fred (Robin) Twombly and his two step-sons Dana (Kris) Kidder and Mike (Ellie) Kidder. He was blessed with 11 grandchildren and 1 great-granddaughter. He also leaves one brother, William (Susan) Twombly, numerous cousins, a nephew and two nieces.
Patricia is forever grateful for the care, support and love that his “angel” Kim provided him in the past few years, as well as his hospice team over the last few weeks.
SERVICES: At Ike’s request there will be no public calling hours or service. A private interment will be held at the Veterans Cemetery at a later date.
