Alfred "Fred" R. Mercier, 90, formerly of Manchester, passed away at Signature Health Care in Fort Meyers, FL on August 6, 2018.
He was born in Manchester on August 8, 1927, the son of Edouard and Henrietta (Bernier) Mercier. He was a World War II Navy Veteran, serving aboard the USS Larson. After the war, he worked with his brother at Mercier Spa on Wilson St. He then worked for HP Hood as a route salesman for over 30 years until his retirement. In his retirement, we worked part-time as a professional pall bearer for Phaneuf Funeral Homes and Crematorium along with a number of other funeral homes in the area. He was an active member of the Knights of Columbus where he earned the designation of Forth Degree and also worked his way up to State Deputy. He volunteered at the Manchester Soup Kitchen and Parish of the Transfiguration where he was a long-time parishioner.
Family members include his wife of over 50 years, Cecile (Cote) Mercier; a brother, Ludger Mercier and his wife Evelyn of CA; and nephews, nieces, and cousins.
Calling hours will be at Phaneuf Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 250 Coolidge Ave., Manchester on Tuesday from 6 to 8 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the Parish of the Transfiguration on Wednesday at 11:00 AM. Burial with military honors will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
