Alice Helen DiZio, 82, of Derry, NH, passed away at Parkland Medical Center on January 1, 2023 surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Cambridge, MA to the late Emerton and Alice (Doherty) Calvert, she was raised in North Cambridge and Somerville, MA, graduating from Somerville High.
Alice worked for Sanders Corp. of Nashua, NH where she met the love of her life, Pierino “Peter” DiZio with whom she shared 57 years of marriage. They were married and raised their family in Derry, NH where she was a devoted and loving wife and mother. Once her children were grown, Alice worked for Hadco Corp. in Derry for many years until her retirement.
She loved animals of all kinds, especially wild ones, wolves being her favorite. She enjoyed riding horses with her daughter and sharing her many memories of riding in the rodeos at Boston Garden in her youth. She also enjoyed riding motorcycles with her son, country music, and had a beautiful singing voice in her own right, and spending time with her family and friends. Alice made many fond memories traveling up and down the east coast and cross country with Peter and their dogs in the R.V. She especially loved visiting and being in the White Mountains. Above all else, Alice was the loving matriarch and “backbone” of her family, and her beloved grandchildren were the highlight of her life.
Alice is survived by her daughters, Kathleen DiZio of Derry and Ann Falter and her husband Stephen of Attleboro, MA; five grandchildren, Amanda, Brendon, Eric, Donna and Melissa; her daughter in law. Shauna DiZio of Manchester; and several great grandchildren, nieces and nephews, extended family members and friends.
In addition to her husband, Alice was predeceased by her son, Peter DiZio, and her siblings, Joseph Calvert and Elizabeth Hughes.
A celebration of life will be held in the spring.
