Alison Susanne “Standing Bear” Pickwick, 44, of Rochester, passed away on September 7, 2026, at Wentworth Douglass Hospital, Dover, with her beloved father by her side. A five-year cancer survivor of multiple myeloma, Alison’s weakened immune system was infected with the PML virus, leading to her death.

Born in Beverly, MA, she is the daughter of Allen and Julia (Congdon) Pickwick. Raised and educated on the north shore, Alison was a 2000 graduate of Hamilton Wenham Regional High School. During her high school years, she maintained a paper route for the Beverly Times and was a proud member of the regional champion field hockey team. Alison matriculated to New England College in Henniker, graduating in 2004. An entrepreneur, Alison founded Pickwick Driver Education in Amesbury, operating the business for 6 years. With her husband, John, the couple welcomed their daughter, Joyce, in 2010.

A dedicated mother, daughter, sister, and friend, Alison’s family was paramount in her life. She cherished time spent with her daughter and their countless adventures to make core memories. Alison especially treasured their hikes to touch Boise Rock. Alison relished her retreats at the family camp in Lyman and the energy the sacred space blessed her with. An avid outdoorswoman, Alison loved fly fishing, hunting, and gliding. Travelling to nearly all 50 states, she was an adventurer of cities and small towns, and everywhere in between. A Mayflower decedent (12) and Native American of the Penobscot Nation, Alison had an affinity for history and strived to amass knowledge about New England and her deep family roots. Alison was a long time member of the Titanic Historic Society, the Order of the Eastern Star, and the Lisbon, Lyman, & Landaff Historical Museum, where her collection of fourteen generations of the Ash family were displayed in May 2026. Alison will be best remembered for her free spirit and love of family.

Alison is survived by her daughter, Joyce Pickwick of Ashville, NC; father, Allen Pickwick of Rochester; mother, Julia Pickwick of Ipswich, MA; half-siblings, Melissa Villa-French and Richard Villa; best friend, Nicki; several aunts, uncles, and cousins; and countless friends and colleagues.
