Allen "Lionel" Reed Sr., 79, of Manchester passed away Sunday, August 26th with his family by his side.
Lionel was born in Pride, Louisiana March 26, 1933, the son of the late Edward and Alice (Westbrook) Reed. He was raised in Louisiana and spent most of his life there, moving to Manchester in 1995.
Lionel retired from the United States Air Force in 1972 having proudly served his country for more than 20 years, including multiple tours in Vietnam. Following his time in the military, Lionel worked for and eventually retired from Pioneer Chlor Alkali as a maintenance supervisor in 1995.
Lionel was a devoted husband and a loving father. He was an avid fisherman where he and his son, Allen Jr., shared countless memories. He enjoyed trips with his wife, Nancy, to the casino. Lionel often spent his time on the porch, in his favorite chair with a good cigar. Lionel took the time to smell the roses he meticulously tended to. Lionel was also quite the handyman, starting and completing many home projects.
Surviving family members include his wife of 40 years, Nancy (Robitaille) Reed; son Allen Lionel Reed, Jr.; daughters Cynthia Oldfield, Alene Celeste Reed; Cheryl Ruiz, and Crenna Myers; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Lionel was predeceased by brothers Kenneth, Henry and Irwin Reed; sisters Betsy Bankston, Anita Reed and Doris Blakely; and two grandchildren, Sonia Oldfield and Michael Leiva.
