ALVIN WILLARD CORLISS

BETHLEHEM, NH – Alvin Willard Corliss, 93, passed away on July 6, 2015, with his family by his side at the Lafayette Center in Franconia.

Alvin was born in Baldwin Mills, Barnston, PQ, Canada on July 2, 1922, a son to Alfred and Viola Washburn (Nelson) Corliss.

Alvin served in the US Army and received his World War II medals 60 years after serving his country. He was an active member of the VFW Howard Shawney Post 816 since 1946.

He had a great love for golf, fishing, telling jokes, playing cards and being involved with the VFW. He was a social butterfly and enjoyed taking trips to Derby Line, VT and Canada to visit relatives and loved to recall old times. Alvin truly loved his family and he had a great sense of humor and everyone enjoyed his company.

Surviving family members include three sons, Wayne and wife Lynn of Montaque, CA, Kenneth of Littleton, Michael and wife Alice of Anaheim, CA; three daughters, Sandra Manning and husband Warren "Butch" of Lisbon, and Susan Brann of Littleton, and Pammy (Corliss) Jones of Corinth, VT; 17 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by three brothers, George of Exeter, NH, Fred of Manchester, NH, and Alfred of Lake Worth, FL; three sisters, Rena Wilkins of Kearney, NJ, Vera Gawel of Ruffin, SC, and Myrtle Ledoux of Bethlehem, NH. He was predeceased by his wife, Myrtle Parker Corliss, a daughter, Cheryl Clark, and a grandson, Todd Manning.

SERVICES – Calling hours will be held on Friday, July 10th from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. at the Pillsbury Phaneuf Funeral Home, located at 101 Union Street in Littleton. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, July 11th at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home, with Rev. Lyn Winter officiating. Burial will follow in the Maple Street Cemetery in Bethlehem with full Military Honors presented by the VFW Howard Shawney Post 816. A gathering will be hosted at the VFW following the burial.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his memory, to the VFW Howard Shawney Post 816, Cottage Street, Littleton, NH 03561.
