Amedee J. Pitre

Amedee Joseph Pitre, of Whitefield, NH, passed away peacefully on September 16, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.

Amedee was born August 22, 1931, in Saint-Alexis-de-Matapédia, Québec, Canada, to Rose de Lima Arsenault and Antonio Pitre. Amedee married his late wife, Estelle Cordellia Dancoes, on August 27, 1955, in Berlin, NH and together they enjoyed sixty-six years of loving marriage.

After completing his education and working on his family farm, Amedee immigrated to the United States in 1952 to work for the Brown Company in Berlin, NH. After serving in the US Navy from 1955 to 1957, Amedee moved to Connecticut to work for Sikorsky Aircraft and Burndy. He brought his family to Lincoln, NH, to continue his career as a tool and die maker at Burndy. While at Burndy in Lincoln, Amedee enjoyed the camaraderie and friendships he shared with several other French-Canadian Americans. Amedee also owned and operated Pitre’s Cabins in Woodstock, NH for several years before selling his business retiring to Lady Lake, FL, where he resided with Estelle before relocating to Whitefield, NH in 2021.

Amedee was a quiet man who enjoyed spending time with his family and working with his hands.

Amedee is survived by his children: son and daughter-in-law David and Tina Pitre, daughter and son-in-law Helen and Harold Shannon, daughter Diane Clark, son and daughter-in-law James and Stephanie Pitre, and son and daughter-in-law Russell and Renee Pitre, as well as nineteen grandchildren, twenty-one great-grandchildren, and countless relatives in Québec, Canada. Preceding Amedee in death are his parents, Rose and Antonio; his wife, Estelle; his son, Ronald Pitre; and his son-in-law, Thomas Clark.

A public graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, October 2, at Woodstock Cemetery in Woodstock, NH with a reception to follow.
