Amerisa “Soula” Baryiames, 84, of Manchester, NH passed away on Saturday, July 19, 2025, surrounded by her 3 children.
Soula Baryiames was born on December 15, 1940, in Halkida, Greece, a beautiful coastal town. She was the daughter of the late Stellios and Maria (Kostarelou) Hatzigiannakis.
Soula’s courage and sense of adventure is best shown through her marriage to a Greek immigrant living in Manchester, NH. Through a chance of fate, Soula’s picture landed in the hands of Michael Baryiames. It was love at first sight for Michael, he immediately started writing Soula and they continued their courtship for 6 months via mail. After a short two-week visit to Greece, Michael proposed to Soula, and they married within 2 weeks. She made the United States her home, where she lovingly raised 3 children and had a loving 40-year marriage.
Growing up, Soula found a love for cooking and fashion. She went to school to gain skills as a seamstress. These skills would help her in the future to design and make clothing for herself and her children.
Soula dedicated her life to her children’s success by instilling strong ethical values, morals, respect and the importance of an education. She loved spending time with her family, especially with her 5 grandchildren. Becoming a Yiayia was Soula's greatest joy, she loved to spoil them, ice cream for breakfast was not uncommon. She loved to share and give whatever she could to make someone happy, feel better or to be helpful. She always prayed for those she loved and those less fortunate.
Soula was known to be a great cook, she would craft dinners and desserts with ease and at the drop of a hat. Her passion was to feed family and friends, no one ever left her house hungry. She loved to travel, whether it was going to visit family, the beach, mountains or a leisurely drive, she was so happy to explore. She loved going on cruises, the never-ending buffets were her favorite.
Members of her family include: her late husband, Michael K. Baryiames; her two daughters, Pauline Cote and her husband, Michael Cote; Maria Pappas and her husband, George “Chip” Pappas; a son, George Baryiames and his wife, Alyson E. Baryiames. She also leaves her brothers; Kosta Hatzigiannakis of Canada; Emmanouil Hatzigiannakis of Greece; and her sister, Agape Kotsandoniou of Greece; 5 grandchildren, Sophia, Emma-Rose, Jake, Alexa, Elena; and cousins, nephews and nieces.
