IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Anica
Ilea
January 3, 1937 – March 24, 2026
Anica Ilea, 89, of Manchester, NH, passed away peacefully on March 24, 2026, after a brief period of declining health. She was born on January 3, 1937, in a small village in Romania where she grew up surrounded by the love of her parents, two sisters, and one brother. Later in life, Anica immigrated to the United States with her two children and made it her home for more than 30 years.
More than anything, Anica was a devoted mother and grandmother. After coming to the United States, she found her greatest joy in helping raise her beloved grandsons, Cornelius and Stefan, cherishing every moment with them. Her love for her family was deep, unwavering, and at the center of her life.
Anica lived a life firmly rooted in faith and love. A devoted member of Saint John of Suceava church, she worshiped faithfully for many years, drawing strength from a quiet and steady trust in God. Her kindness, gentleness, and compassion reflected her beliefs and touched the hearts of all who knew her.
She believed that all of nature’s creatures are God’s creatures, each worthy of care and respect. Birds at the feeder, animals in the yard, even the smallest living things were, to her, reminders of God’s love and handiwork. She passed this deep compassion on to her children and grandchildren, teaching them to treat all of God’s creatures with kindness.
Blessed with a remarkable green thumb, Anica spent many peaceful hours in her flower garden, finding joy among the blossoms she so lovingly tended.
Anica also had a true passion for cooking, and her kitchen was the heart of the home. She introduced many locals to her authentic Romanian cuisine, and made sure they always went home with leftovers.
She lived a long and meaningful life, leaving behind memories that will be forever treasured. Her presence, wisdom, and warmth will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of calling her family or friend.
Anica is survived by her two children Corneliu Ilea and his wife Ana and Cristina Rowen, and her husband, Chris; her grandchildren Cornelius Ilea and his wife Natalie, Stefan Jelev, and Sofia Ilea; her greatgrandchild Harrison Ilea, along with many other extended family and friends who will miss her dearly. She was predeceased by her husband, Mircea Ilea, parents and 3 siblings.
Calling hours will be held on Monday, March 30, from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM, followed by a service from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Phaneuf Funeral Homes, 243 Hanover Street, Manchester, NH 03102. Burial will take place immediately after the service at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, 474 Goffstown Road, Manchester, NH 03102, followed by a luncheon held at the Puritan Backroom Restaurant, 245 Hooksett Rd, Manchester, NH. All are welcome to celebrate and honor Anica’s life.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made to the Saint Joseph of Suceava church, where she was a devoted parishioner.
