Anna (Kandilis) Newton, 93, of 103 Ray Street died February 24, 2005 at Catholic Medical Center. She was born in Manchester on January 13, 1912, the daughter of Nicholas and Marina (Betsikos) Kandilis. She attended Manchester schools and was a graduate of the Keene Normal School. She was a teacher throughout her career and taught in a one room school house in Pembroke. She also taught in Henniker. She resided in Massachusetts and in Albany, NY where she also taught school for many years. She was an avid reader and a skilled bridge player. She was the widow of John Roy Newton who died in 1980. Family members include a sister, Athena Archambault of Manchester; several nephews, nieces, grandnephews, grandnieces and cousins. In Her Life: Although she had no children, she considered her nephews and nieces her children. They include two nephews, Nicholas Karatzas of Hampton and Philip Karatzas of Plymouth, MA; and two nieces, Marianne Perry and Candice Coll, both of Manchester. After cremation, urn burial will take place in Bethlehem Cemetery, Glenmont, NY. Phaneuf Funeral Homes is in charge of arrangements.
