FRANCONIA  Arelene A. Hoik, 93, formerly of Bethlehem, passed away at the Lafayette Health Care Center in Franconia where she resided for the past 12 years, on Friday, January 9, 2004.

Arelene was born a daughter to John and Sara (Fowler) Hoik on November 28, 1910 in Bethlehem Junction, NH.

Arelene attended area schools and in the early years worked as a waitress at a number of Bethlehems (long gone) hotels. She also worked as a telephone operator in Bethlehem. In later years she worked the desk at Thayers Hotel in Littleton and operated her antique shop on Mill Street.

Arelene enjoyed cooking and gardening, taking great pride in the flowers and shrubs she planted around her homes. She loved animals, especially dogs, cats, and horses. In the early days, she enjoyed riding her horse, Roxy, and hiking up nearby mountains.

Surviving family members include two sons, John L. Wedick, Jr. and wife, Jean of Bethlehem, NH, and David Goldstein and wife Linda of Mesa, AZ; three grandsons, two granddaughters, and several great-grandchildren. Two former husbands, John L. Jake Wedick, Sr., and Harry Goldstein predeceased her, as well as four brothers, Henry, Leon, Lawrence (Larry), Leland (Lee), and her only sister, Freda.

SERVICES  A Graveside Committal Service will be held in late spring at the Maple Street Cemetery in Bethlehem.
