Arlene E. Atkinson

Arlene E. Atkinson, 98, of Concord passed away Saturday, September 11, 2021, after a long and happy life.

A lifelong resident of the Penacook/Concord area, Arlene was born in Penacook February 19, 1923, to Harry and Laura (Grenier) Long. She was a graduate of Penacook High School and married Richard Atkinson August 11, 1945. She worked as an assembler for Hoyt Electric for 9 years and then transitioned to Beede Electric where she remained for 33 years until her retirement in 1985.

Arlene was a faithful parishioner of Immaculate Conception Church and an active member of NH Tops 0121 Penacook Chapter for many years, being crowned Tops Queen in 2013. She and her husband made it a point to stay active in retirement, volunteering to work on Jeanne Shaheen’s gubernatorial campaign in the late 90s and traveling whenever possible. Arlene often reminisced fondly over an unforgettable trip to Hawaii. She also enjoyed embroidering and painting, and she was always up for a card game with friends or family.
Arlene is survived by her son, Richard W. Atkinson Jr. and wife Jeanne of Antrim, NH; her daughter, Ann Bachelder of Penacook; her grandson, Peter Atkinson of Antrim; and several nieces, nephews, and other extended family.

The family will receive visitors Thursday, September 16th 4:00-7:00pm at Phaneuf Funeral Homes & Crematorium, 172 King Street in Boscawen. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00am Friday, September 17th at Immaculate Conception Church, 9 Bonney Street in Penacook.
