Arthur C. Benoit, 92, of Penacook, NH, passed away peacefully Saturday, July 13, 2024 following a brief illness.
Arthur was born in Pomquet, Nova Scotia on September 10, 1931, to Joseph an Ida Benoit. He was raised and educated in Canada before relocating to the US to live with his sister in Massachusetts. At the age of 21, he was given the option to return to Canada or enlist in the military. Arthur chose to enlist and proudly served this country with the US Army during the Korean War. Following honorable discharge, Arthur went to stay with another sister in New Hampshire. It was during this time that he met the love of his life, Carolyn Greene. Though in the beginning they resided for short periods in Milford and Concord, they lived the majority of their married years in Penacook where they raised four wonderful children together.
Arthur enjoyed time spent outdoors hunting, fishing, gardening, and snowmobiling, but his true passion was realized in carpentry and woodworking. He loved building furniture for friends and family, and he even assisted in the building of two family camps. He served several years with the Concord Auxiliary Police Department and was co-owner of Benoit Brothers Roofing and Carpentry. Though Arthur’s interests were many and varied, his family was his whole world. He deeply enjoyed spending time with family and friends at the Lake Winona camp. His kindness, sharp mind, and gentle manner filled the hearts of all who had the good fortune to have known him.
Arthur is survived by his children, Steven Benoit of Concord, Bruce Benoit and wife Tammy of Webster, Tammy Temple and husband Bob Parsons of Penacook, and Michelle Toupin and husband Joseph of Boscawen; grandchildren Travis, Tawnya, and Ryan Benoit, Nicolas, Jordan, and Alex Temple, and Shaye Toupin, and their spouses and significant others; great-grandchildren Brody, Briar, Brooklyn, and Hunter; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and other extended family. In addition to his parents, Arthur was predeceased by all seven of his siblings, Ethel Boudreau, Irene Breen, Josie Doiron, Margaret Benoit, Theresa Benoit, Rita McNeff, and Peter Benoit.
The family will receive visitors Friday, July 19th 5:00-7:00pm at Phaneuf Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 172 King Street in Boscawen. Funeral Service will be held at noon on Saturday, July 20th in the Funeral Home chapel. Arthur will be laid to rest alongside his beloved wife at New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery during a privately attended military service being held at a later date.
