Arthur E. Colman

April 29, 1929 — January 11, 2025

Pittsfield, NH

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Arthur Edwin Colman (95), of Pittsfield, NH, on January 11, 2025. Arthur was predeceased by his parents Sumner Colman and Nellie Dewire; wife Mary O’Leary Colman and four brothers, Robert Colman, Frank Colman, Bill Colman and Richard Colman. He is survived by his son Arthur Gerald Colman and his wife Patricia Colman of Alburquerque, NM, daughter Marion Louise Ruocco of Pittsfield, NH. He has three grandchildren, Christine Colman Hautz, Dawn Kilmer and Anthony Colman. He has numerous great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.

Arthur served in the US Navy as a gunner’s mate on the aircraft carrier USS Bairoko CVE-115. While serving in the south pacific he witnessed three nuclear weapons tests at Eniwetok and Bikini Atoll.

Arthur had many occupational skills; he was a cook, a painter, a foundry worker, a butcher and a security guard just to name a few. One of his lifelong passions was fishing and hunting. Arthur made many trips to Alaska to fish for salmon. He loved nothing better than going hunting to just sit in the woods and listen to nature. One of his other loves was wildlife photography. He would develop photos and give them away to anyone who showed interest.

Art had a wonderful personality who truly never met a stranger. Those who knew him will remember that he could talk to anyone, even if they were not interested in talking. It always took Arthur twice as long to grocery shop as he had to share recipes with every woman he passed. He was truly a loveable man and a friend to many.

Rest in peace Arthur, you will be missed and always remembered.

In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Pittsfield Senior Center, where Art had much pleasure attending their socials for the past 13 years.
