Arthur J. Greaves, 91 years old died peacefully at Littleton Hospital December 1, 2024. He was born In Brooklyn, New York on May 6, 1933. Arthur came to Littleton with his parents Arthur Greaves & Aileen Greaves (Garceau) in 1935. Aileen was originally from Apthorp. Arthur grew up living on Washington Street. He was in the Boy Scouts as a young man, graduated from Littleton High School in 1951, where he excelled at sports as a football & track star. During High School he worked on the Aerial Tramway in Franconia Notch. 

He enlisted in the US Navy in October of 1951, his reason was to learn a trade. He went to school to become an aviation ordinance specialist on aircraft carriers. He served on the USS Antietam & USS Bennington from 1952 to 1957. In 1957 he was discharged from the US Navy and joined the US Air Force as a weapons mechanic, where he served in the United States along with Canada, Tiawan, Korea & Vietnam. During his duty at Bien Hoa Air Base 1969 to 1970 he received the Bronze Star for maintaining and serving armament under combat. He retired in 1972 at England airbase in Alexandria, Louisiana from his life as a Master Sargent & Weapons Maintenance Supervisor.

Upon his retirement he moved to Northampton, Mass. Where they lived for 50 years. In 2022 they moved back to the Littleton area.

Arthur married Judith Greaves on December 6, 1952. They were high school sweethearts. Arthur is survived by his wife, Judith Caroline Greaves (Marquis) & his sons and family, Mitch and Ellen Greaves, their sons Ethan and his partner Angela, Luke and his partner Leah, and their daughter Wren Greaves, Scott and Janine Greaves and their family Scotty, Tony, Cody, Megan & her children Zayden and Zaneah. Along with Arthur’s sister’s children Cathy, Patricia and Michael Bannon with their spouses and children. Judith’s brother Jim and Sandra Marquis and their children Brett, Stephanie and Tim Smollen.

A service to commemorate his life with military honors will be held at the Wheeler Hill Cemetery, North Littleton Rd. at 11:00am on Saturday, May 10, 2025. There will be a reception to follow.
