Warner, NH

Barbara A. Chellis, 73, of Warner, NH, passed away peacefully on January 30, 2025, with her loving sons by her side following a brief illness. Born on August 19, 1951, in New Hampshire, Barbara was the daughter of Grace Laughy and was later adopted and raised by David Lorden in Wilmot, NH, where she graduated from New London High School. Barbara lived in Warner, NH for over 40 years, where she raised her two beloved sons, Stephen and Cody.

Barbara dedicated 39 years of her life to the Community Action Program, first serving as Director in Warner and later transferring to the Concord office. She was known for her infectious smile, hard work, dedication, and compassionate nature, always striving to make a difference in the lives of those around her.

In her personal life, Barbara was a wonderful mother, who nurtured and supported her sons with love and devotion. This also carried over to her grandchildren, whom she loved and adored spending time with. Barbara had a passion for crafting, and her hobbies included scrapbooking, knitting, and ceramics, activities that brought her joy and a creative outlet.

Throughout her life, Barbara embarked on a journey to search for her birth father, John William Courtney, a pursuit that led her to uncover a broader family story. Although she was unable to connect with him before his passing, she formed meaningful relationships with several half-siblings and other family members, enriching her life with newfound connections.

Barbara is survived by her sons, Stephen Chellis and his wife Tawnya Benoit of Andover, NH, and Cody Chellis of Hopkinton, NH; her siblings, Trudy Hutchinson, Debbie Turgeon and her husband Bill, Peggy Kirtchner and her husband Brent, Dave Lorden, Diana Courtney, Ginger Courtney and Bill Rigg; she was a proud grandmother to Brody, Briar, Elizabeth, and Brandon; and she also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date to honor Barbara's memory and the impact she made on the lives of those who knew and loved her.

Barbara will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
