Barbara Frances (Rivers) Christie, 85, died on Tuesday, May 14, 2024 at Brigham & Women’s Hospital in Boston after a brief illness. She was born on March 15, 1939 in Williamstown, VT, daughter of the late Harry and Corrine (Dame) Rivers.

She was the wife of James Christie whom she married on February 10, 1962 in Barre, Vermont. They shared 62 wonderful years together.

Barbara worked at Chubb Life in Corporate Finance for several years.

Her life was filled with love and laughter. She was generous in both spirit and time, teaching family and friends sewing, baking, and crafts. Most of all, she enjoyed her large family and leaves behind many happy memories.

During her senior years, she found joy in crafts with her Southfork and Cobblestone Community friends, and spending time with her family.

Along with her parents, Harry and Corrine, she was predeceased by her brothers, Wendell, Merrill, and Harry, and her grandson, Ryan Christie.

She is survived by her husband, James Christie; children, Wendy Chase, Scott and Tina Christie, Doree and Bob Sargent, Marc and Cindy Christie, Jay Christie and Colleen Burns; grandchildren, Daniel J. Chase, Scott and Lindsay Christie, James and Kaitlyn Christie, Matthew and Alison Sargent, Michael Sargent, Mikayla Sargent, Lauren Christie and Ben Kibit, Eric and Alisha Christie, Jacob Christie and Dakota Ford; great-grandchildren, Taylor and Charlotte Christie, Reagan and Mia Sargent, Rosie and Warren Christie, and Adalynn and Amelia Christie; and her brother, Ed Rivers; sister, Wilma Thompson; as well as many nieces and nephews.

SERVICES: Services will be held privately at the convenience of the family.  In lieu of flowers, those who wish to make a tribute in Barbara’s name are asked to consider a donation to Pope Memorial SPCA, 94 Silk Farm Road, Concord, NH 03301.
