Barbara (McAulay) Harden, 96, of Wellesley, MA, formerly of Manchester, passed away Thursday, August 16, 2018 at Elizabeth Seton Residence, Wellesley, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Manchester, she is the daughter of the late Donald and Elizabeth (Bishop) McAulay. Raised and educated in Manchester, Barbara dedicated herself to a life of selfless service to others. For many years she was the Teenage Program Director at the YWCA and the manager of Blake's Restaurant. In her spare time, Barbara volunteered at the Salvation Army, local hospice organizations, and the Elliot Hospital, until the age of 83. A lifelong member of St. Paul's Methodist Church, Barbara was active in church functions as well as regularly drove the elderly to church services.
A beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend, Barbara's family was paramount in her life. Throughout the years, she lived vicariously through her children and grandchildren as they played a variety of sports. Barbara loved to entertain and there was always plenty of home cooked food served at the Harden house!!! Barbara will be best remembered for her generous heart, love of family and a beautiful smile.
Barbara is survived by two sons, Robert C. Harden, Jr. and Ronald Harden; two daughters, Geraldine Regan and Barbara-Jo Danetra; nine grandchildren, Jennifer Regan, Catherine Paterno, Christina Butt, Danielle Danetra, also Cheryl , Sharon, Shelly, Bryant, and Robbie Harden. Barbara also was blessed with three great grandchildren, Samuel Paterno, Luke Paterno, and Evelyn Butt; and enjoyed their many visits. In addition to her parents, Barbara was predeceased by her husband, Robert C. Harden, Sr., with whom she shared 54 years of marriage; and her sister, Jean Lillis.
ARRANGEMENTS: Her Committal Service will be held at Pine Grove Cemetery, 765 Brown Ave., Manchester, on Monday, August 20, 2018, at 11:30 A.M. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in Barbara's memory to St. Paul's United Methodist Church, 335 Smyth Road, Manchester, NH 03104.
