Barbara Anne Vigneault, a beloved matriarch, passed away peacefully on June 20, 2026, at the age of 88. Born on December 26, 1937, in Franklin, New Hampshire, Barbara was the cherished daughter of Melvin and Cecile Leonard. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Paul Leonard.
Barbara’s life was a testament to love, family and adventures. She married the love of her life, Donald R.Vigneault in May 1960. For 55 years, they built a life rich in companionship and shared passions, including their love of travel, particularly their winter retreats in Hollywood, Florida. Their shared enthusiasm for golf, New England sports, countless bingo games, bowling leagues and casino visits were highlights of their time together. More than just husband and wife, Barbara and Donald were best friends. Though Donald passed in August 2015, their enduring love remained a beacon of comfort and inspiration for their family.
Barbara’s legacy lives on in the loving memories of her children: Linda and Robert Couture of Manchester, NH; Robert and Sheri-Lynn Vigneault of Manchester, NH; Brenda and Jeff Litchfield of Concord, NH; Nanette and Daniel Paradis of Tequesta, FL; Amanda and Timothy Gromko of Manchester, NH; Amy Lazzar of Manchester, NH and Cheryl and Jonathan Plumpton of Bedford, NH. She is also survived by her siblings Nancy Clyncke of Yampa, CO, Richard Leonard of Gloucester, MA and James Leonard of New Hampton, NH. Barbara’s family was blessed with 15 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren, all of whom were touched by her love and forthright spirit.
Barbara graduated from Laconia High School in 1955 and went on to attend nursing school at Notre Dame Hospital graduating in 1958. She served as a nurse for 2 years before dedicating her life to raising her seven children, She was an active parishioner throughout her life, first at St. Francis of Assisi Parish and later at St. Anthony of Padua Parish. Her presence was also felt at the Derryfield Country Club, where she played many rounds of golf with family and friends.
She was known for her straightforward nature, quick wit and unmistakable sass. Barbara was a woman who spoke her mind and stood her ground. Her honesty, humor and strength made her a memorable and cherished presence in the lives of all who knew her.
A service to celebrate Barbara’s life will be held on June 30, 2026 at 10AM at St. Anthony of Padua Parish located at 172 Belmont Street, Manchester, NH 03103. Friends and family are invited to gather and honor the remarkable life of a woman whose love and strength left an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Barbara Leonard Vigneault will be deeply missed but her spirit and legacy will continue to inspire those she leaves behind.
