Barry V. Jerzyk, 63, of Manchester died unexpectedly on Wednesday, May 4th surrounded by his loving family.
Barry was born in Manchester on May 14, 1947, the only child of Alexander and Helen (Barry) Jerzyk. He was a lifelong resident of Manchester, graduating from Central High School, class of â66, where he was very active in sports, playing basketball, football, and running with the cross country team. After high school Barry enlisted in the United States Navy and was stationed out of Andrews Air Force Base. He served on the USS Constellation where his tour of duty was in the Gulf of Tonkin with Attack Squadron 85. He also served as Plane Captain for the A-6A Aircraft and was color guard for President Nixonâs Inauguration. Following his time in the service, Barry attended UNH Manchester and majored in Marketing.
Barry was an avid reader. He enjoyed factual and historical books, often starting and finishing a novel in a couple days. He is described by his wife and daughter as an honest, loyal man who stood behind them and enthusiastically supported everything they did. His interest in his daughterâs activities and achievements was always apparent when he took time to do things like coach her soccer team or take her to early morning hockey practices, coffee in hand. Others describe him as a funny man who always delivered the best one-liners, and he was also said to be very observant; never missing any of lifeâs little details. Barry was very proud of his military service and recently contributed photos and information for the Commemoration of the Naval Aviation Centennial at the Aviation Museum of New Hampshire.
Barry is survived by his wife of 39 years, Sylvia (Roy) Jerzyk and their daughter, Karen, both of Manchester; many in-laws; and several nieces and nephews.
