Benjamin H. Hampton, Jr., 81, of Goffstown, passed away peacefully on February 6, 2023. He was the loving husband of the late Jane (Cavanaugh) Hampton, with whom he was married 25 years.
Ben was born on November 9, 1941 in Hollywood, Florida to Mary (Petruff) and Benjamin Hampton, Sr.
Ben was a beloved professor at Manchester Community College and Great Bay Community College and to say that he was a history lover, would be an understatement. Ben’s passion for history, specifically the Civil War, and his dedication to teaching others will be deeply missed. He touched the lives of countless students through his teaching and participation in reenactments and we hope his legacy will inspire future generations of history enthusiasts.
Ben is survived by his children, Benjamin H. Hampton, III and his wife Debbie of Easton, MA, Elizabeth Shapiro of Dracut, MA and James J. Hampton of Eugene, OR; his stepchildren, Danielle Bender Amero and her husband Michael, of Somersworth, NH and John Bender, Jr and his wife Laura of Middleboro, MA; his 8 grandchildren, Katie and Andrew Shapiro, Joshua, Jacob, and Rhiannon Amero, and Abigail, Madelyn Kate, and Justin Bender.
The family would also like to offer their deep appreciation to the staff of the Hillsborough County Nursing Home in Goffstown for their compassion and care while Ben was a resident.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, February 18th from 12pm-1pm at The Phaneuf Funeral Homes & Crematorium, 243 Hanover Street in Manchester. A funeral service will follow at 1pm in the funeral home. Family and friends are kindly invited to attend. Interment will take place in Forest Glade Cemetery, Somersworth, NH at a later date.
