Bernice E. Barton, 79 of Putney, VT passed away on Friday, January 31, 2014 at her residence in Putney. She was born in Springfield, MA on December 21, 1934, the daughter of the late Pearl Vielleux.

Bernice was a long time Putney resident. She was employed for over 30 years at Basketville in Putney. She also worked at DJ's in Brattleboro and in the deli at the old Putney General Store, where she was known as "Ma Barton". She loved spending time with her grandchildren and her cat Clyde. She enjoyed shopping with her daughter, bowling, doing crossword puzzles, watching football and loved attending the Master Batters softball games in Putney. Bernice will be best remembered by her family as a great mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend. She will be forever missed and never be forgotten.

She is predeceased by a brother, Arthur Page in 2013.

She is survived by two sons, Gary Barton of Putney, and Tony Barton and his wife Stacy of Lakewood, CO; two daughters, Jeannie Quest and her husband Benjamin of Putney, and Elaine Howard and her husband Kevin of Deltona, FL; six grandchildren, Trevor Quest, Trisha Quinn, Trina Kneeland, Tracy Forrett, Jeffery Kneeland and Ryan McAuliffe; a great granddaughter, Nora Bowen; her best friend and cousin, Gladys Stockwell; as well as many cousins and friends.
A Celebration of Bernice's life will be held on Saturday, February 8, 2014 at 11AM at the Elks Lodge, 75 Putney Rd, Brattleboro, VT 05301. Please bring a dish to share if you would like, it would be greatly appreciated. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donation may be made in Bernice's name to the Windham County Humane Society, 916 W. River Road, Brattleboro, VT 05301.
