Concord - Berthold ( Roy ) L. Nieder, 80, of North Emperor Drive, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, January 12, 2011 while at home after a courageous battle with cancer. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him.
Roy was born in Westchester, PA on August 19, 1930. He was predeceased by his adoptive parents, Berthold F. and Senta (Hartle) Nieder and an infant daughter Karen.
Roy is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Coral (Magoon) Nieder; 5 sons, Lawrence and wife Susan Nieder of Concord and their children, Lisa of Portsmouth, Thomas and Brian of Concord; Kyle and wife Gloria Nieder of Bow and their daughters Crystal of Massachusetts and Kyla of Bow; Mark and wife Linda Nieder of Penacook and their son Logan of Illinois and daughter Magan and her partner Jon Mulcahey and their son Devon of Concord; Merlin and wife Julie Nieder of Northfield and their daughters Tonya Everly and her daughter Savannah of Arizona and Cheyenne of Northfield; Michael Nieder of NH and his daughters Caitlin of Concord and Cassidy of Florida; a daughter Dorothy and husband Larry Duclos of NH and their children Dax and Amber. He is also survived by his brothers-in-law, John and wife Priscilla Ingalls of North Woodstock; Kenneth and wife Mary Lou Magoon of Hill; Bliss and wife Claire Magoon of Maine; Robert and wife Glennys Magoon of Northwood; and Marcus Magoon of Pittsfield; several nieces, nephews, grand nieces, grand nephews and cousins.
Roy grew up in Maine and Massachusetts, graduating from Natick High School in 1949. He attended Northeastern University and was in the Air National Guard for 11 years in both Massachusetts and NH. In 1954 he relocated to Concord, NH and worked for R.D. Brew Company. He also resided in Contoocook for several years where he was very active in the Contoocook Methodist Church. In 1956 Roy became co-owner of Profile Electronics of Concord and Bow. In 1967, Roy developed and patented machinery used in the electronics business and started his own company, C & R Products. The business name changed to Kinematrix and his equipment was shipped all over the world. The business was quite successful until destroyed by a fire in 1988. Roy was then involved in real estate, insurance, printing and then was employed by the State of NH, Division of Emergency Management until his retirement in 2007.
Roy and Coral resided in Concord and Bow for 39 years, moving back to Concord in 2008. He was a family man and loved hunting, canoeing, camping, skiing and tennis with family and friends. Later in life, Roy took up woodworking and made several items. His greatest gifts were a rocking Harley Davidson motorcycle made for his granddaughter Cheyenne and an oak cradle made for his granddaughter Magan. Roy was an awesome cook and his family enjoyed many meals and good times with him. He especially loved making breakfast for his much loved grandchildren which included special requests of pancakes, waffles and donuts.
Roy was recently inducted into the Concord/Epsom Elks Lodge #1210.
He has been a member of Centerpoint Church (First Baptist) in Concord for over 23 years.
Roy loved to travel. In November 2010 he ventured on his dream cruise to the Panama Canal with his beloved wife.
Memorial calling hours will be held Friday, January 21st from 4:30 to 6:30 PM at Centerpoint Church, 20 North State Street, Concord, NH. A Celebration of his life will be held Saturday, January 22nd at 1:30 PM also at Centerpoint Church.
