Betty E. (Robinson) Maddocks

August 27, 1939 — May 19, 2025

Hudson

Betty E. (Maiden: Robinson) Maddocks of Hudson, N.H. died May 19, 2025 after a short illness. She was 85.

Born in Bath, Maine on August 27, 1939, she was the daughter of Roland and Ethel (Huggard) Robinson.

Growing up in Bath, Betty was popular and vivacious, had many friends, and before graduating Morse High School in 1958, served as class Treasurer.

With the dream of becoming a nurse, Betty graduated as a Registered Nurse from the Central Maine General Hospital nursing school in 1961. While in nursing school Betty served as class Secretary and traveled to Miami to represent her class in the 1960 National Student Nurses Association Convention. During her last year of nursing school, she served as corresponding secretary.

After graduation, Betty applied for a job to serve on a hospital ship but was told she needed to get some experience first. She often joked, “I got your father instead.”

Betty married Naval Marine fighter pilot Maynard W. Maddocks in 1963 at a ceremony in Bath, Maine, before traveling the country with him as he served in various capacities as an attack and reconnaissance fighter pilot, serving mainly from the base in Cherry Point, N.C., and El Toro, Calif.

Betty moved to Hudson, N.H. in 1971 with her husband and daughters to put down roots, and where she had a long, joyful career as an RN working for St. Joseph’s Hospital in Nashua, N.H.

Throughout her life Betty made friends easily and was said by many to be a “great friend.” She was an avid hiker in Acadia, Maine, loving to scale The Beehive and Cadillac mountains. She took family and friends on pilgrimages to these mountains and enjoyed delicacies like fried clams and lobster rolls while listening to the waves crashing against the craggy shoreline of Maine.

She was an avid gardener of flowers and vegetables, loved to quilt and she dearly loved to laugh.

Betty was predeceased by her husband Maynard Maddocks, her brother Donald Robinson, and sister Barbara Savage. She leaves her daughters Susan Salk and son-in-law David Salk; Linda Maddocks and partner Charlie Kersh; sisters Dorothy Doyle and JoAnne Gerow, and many nieces and nephews.

Private burial will be held at Oak Grove Cemetery in Bath, Maine.
