Betty L. (Vivace) Williams, 68, formerly of Derry, passed away on March 25, 2011 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington, NC.
She was born in Winchester, MA on October 14, 1942, the daughter of Carl and Norma (Vasey) Vivace, Sr., and grew up in Reading, MA. Betty lived in Derry for many years before moving to NC three years ago.
She was a mechanical engineer with Raytheon for over 20 years. After that she attended mortuary school and received her degree and became a licensed funeral director. She opened Nutfield Funeral Home in Derry where she worked for eight years. She later sold the building and worked as a funeral director for Phaneuf Funeral Homes and Crematorium for five years. She was a long-time member of the Red Hats and was very active in volunteerism. She was predeceased by a daughter, Carleen Lockley in 1962.
Family members include three sons, Edward Dias of Methuen, MA, Glenn Lockley of Hooksett and Christopher Dias of Derry; two daughters, Cheryl Perry of Derry and Desiree Misco of Londonderry; 14 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren; two brothers, Carl Vivace, Jr. of Wilmington, NC and Robert Vivace of Indianapolis, IN; and nephews, nieces and cousins.
A memorial gathering will take place at Phaneuf Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 243 Hanover Street, Manchester on Thursday from 5 to 6 PM with a memorial service to follow in the funeral home chapel at 6:00 PM. For more information, go to www.phaneuf.net
