BOGDAN J. BOCHNAR
LITTLETON Bogdan Bochnar, 75, of Littleton, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, December 15, 2002 at Littleton Regional Hospital.
Bogdan was born on January 6, 1927 in Poznan, Poland, a son to Joseph and Zofia (Gawrych) Bochnar. He attended schools in Poland, France, and Germany and studied international trade and ancient languages; Greek and Latin. He could fluently speak four modern languages and was able to communicate in half a dozen other European dialects.
Demobilized after the war with the Polish Army under British Command in Calais, France, he decided to stay in France where he was employed for 13 years as a chemist for the Kuhlman Chemical Factory, an equivalent to Dupont Chemicals in Wilmington, Delaware. From 1954 to 1960 he was very active in the politics as the State Chairman of the Polish Democratic Party in exile for the northern part of France.
In December 1960 he arrived in the United States and worked as an interior decorator and later as an importer, and was also in the food business in New York City. There he was granted U. S. Citizenship. He was graduated from the New York City Pohs Institute for real estate brokerage and insurance.
After the war he was married in France to his college sweetheart. They had three children. He moved to Lyman in 1976 and was licensed to sell real estate in New Hampshire. He was employed by Winn Associates Realtors in Littleton. He had established many connections with European customers as well as with the Royal Embassy of Saudi Arabia who used his services in their real estate dealings.
Mr. Bochnar enjoyed communicating with people from different countries in their own languages. He was strong in history and took pleasure in discussing with his foreign clients different aspects of it.
In 1980 Bogdan opened Dans Furniture in Littleton, NH and retired in 1992. He had a great love for dogs.
Surviving family members include his second wife, Adele (Chmiel) Bochnar of Littleton, his son, Andrew Bochnar of New Milford, CT; two daughters, Anne Piotrowski of Melrose, MA, Sophie Rosenfeld of Mendham, NJ; and four grandchildren, Danny, Annette, Matthew, and Jack.
SERVICES -- The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening, December 17th, from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Pillsbury Funeral Home, 101 Union Street, Littleton, NH. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church on Wednesday, December 18th at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Fr. Charles Chase as Celebrant. Burial will be in the St. Rose Cemetery in Littleton.
