BRADLEY "BRAD" F. WHITCOMB
DALTON, NH -- Bradley "Brad" F. Whitcomb, 79, an icon and lifelong resident of Dalton, died surrounded by his wife and daughters late on Saturday evening, November 19, 2016, after a long battle with complications from diabetes. He was born on June 9, 1937, to Raymond and Hortense Whitcomb, who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by all of his brothers, Roger Whitcomb, Lawrence "Bub" Whitcomb, Gene Whitcomb, and David "Joe" Whitcomb. Brad graduated from Whitefield High School in 1955.
Through the years, Brad worked in various jobs, including Curran and Lavoie, and the Town of Dalton. Brad attended and completed New Hampshire Police Training School from March 2, 1965, through June 1, 1965, was on the Dalton police force and also served as Chief of Police in Dalton for a number of years. He and his wife, Shirley, owned the popular Folk House restaurant in Dalton for 15 years. Brad was also a member of the Grange and the Masons.
Bradley was known around the North Country for his smile, jokes, his "own" sense of humor, and kind and generous heart. He often would make and deliver food boxes for local residents, especially around Thanksgiving and Christmas. He was a collector of many things, including a few stray cats which came around, and he enjoyed watching the birds at the many bird feeders around the family home where Bradley and Shirley raised their daughters. In his younger days, Brad called square dances and enjoyed dancing, being graceful and light on his feet.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley (Stone) Whitcomb, of Dalton, as well as his four daughters, Rosie McGee, of Ketchum, Idaho; Karen Hoyt and her husband Steve, of Bethlehem, NH; Tina Doughty and her husband, Patrick, of Bethlehem, NH; and Mindy Whitcomb of Bethlehem, NH. He is also survived by nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
SERVICES – A Memorial Service will be held at 10:30 am, Saturday, December 10, 2016, at the Dalton Congregational Church, with Pastor Aaron Cox officiating. Immediately following the service, a reception will be held at the former Dalton Elementary School where everyone is welcome for refreshments. Burial will be in the Cushman Cemetery in Dalton. There will be no calling hours.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests you make a donation to the charity of your choice in the name of Bradley Whitcomb.
