Brian Elliott Kitching

SGM Brian Elliott Kitching, 68, of Epsom, passed away on Wednesday, November 8, 2017 at the Concord Hospice House, surrounded by his loving family following a battle with lung and brain cancer.

Born on January 8, 1949, he was the second child of James Martin Kitching and Virginia (Bodge) Kitching. Raised and educated in Meredith, Brian was a graduate of InterLakes High School, Class of 1967.

After graduation, Brian joined the Army. An honorably discharged veteran, Brian proudly served his country from 1967 to 1970 during the Vietnam War. After his first three years with the Army, Brian met his wife, Alana (Olden) Kitching, from Meredith. They married in November 1971 and shared 46 years together, raising their two daughters. Brian reenlisted in the Army in 1972. He and his wife, Alana enjoyed traveling around the world. Through the Army, Brian and Alana traveled to Germany, Ft. Devens, MA as a cook, Manchester, NH as a recruiter, Ft. Bliss, TX for Sergeant Major Academy, Letterman Army Hospital Presidio of San Francisco, and Ft. Riley, Kansas. Brian retired from the Tripler Hospital in Honolulu, Hawaii. Brian dedicated twenty-eight years to his Army career. Following his discharge from the Army in 1995, Brian worked for Holiday Inn, Graphic Packaging and Pitco.

As a child, he loved fishing and started collecting stamps that later grew into collecting many things. Brian lived the rest of his time in Epsom working on all his beautiful gardens he created and loved so much.

Brian is survived by his wife, Alana Kitching of Epsom; sister, Sharon Miller and husband William of Meredith, NH; two daughters, Rebecca Nations and husband Ward of Ogden, KS, and Audrey Smith and husband Mark of Manhattan, KS; nine grandchildren, Kody, Kasey, Kaitlyn and her husband Chad, Kyler and Kamryn Nations of Ogden, KS, Kelsey, MaKenzie, Nathan, and Mason of Manhattan, KS; three great grandchildren, Brooklyn, Ava and Payslie; several nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends. Brian was predeceased by his brother, Gary Kitching in 1992; father, James in 2004; and mother, Virginia in 2014.

ARRANGEMENTS: His Visitation will be held in the Phaneuf Funeral Home, 172 King St., Boscawen, on Monday, November 20 from 2:00 to 4:00 P.M. Brian will be laid to rest at the New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery, 110 Daniel Webster Hwy, on Tuesday, November 21, at 1:00 P.M. Friends and relatives invited.
