Calvin Lester Ellis, affectionately known as Cal, Pops, Pa and Daddy, age 66, of Manchester, NH, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 26, 2020.
Calvin is survived by his daughters, Brandi and wife Sarah, Lauren, Kelly, Megan and husband Mitchell, Ashly and husband Robert, Carly and husband Jason, Chelcie and husband Ricky; 12 grandchildren: William, Elise, Calvin, Bailey, Jackson, Sam, Lou, Myles, Scarlett, Avery, Leo and a new bundle on the way, his wife Barbara Ellis, his brother James Ellis and his former wife Marilyn Ellis. He is preceded in death by his parents Zuora and Russell Ellis, Brother Clarence "Skippy" Ellis and Sister Frances Gamwell.
Calvin was born on October 20, 1953 in Chicago, Illinois. From the first day, he was placed on this earth he was a self-proclaimed wanderer, a stoic mentor and a seeker of knowledge. Knowledge that he so well shared and taught others. Calvin had a way of making you think beyond the box to achieve successes and goals that you thought you never could accomplish. He never passed judgement on you but instead helped you see both sides of all situations so you could proceed objectively. He gave you a chance when no one else could…would…or understood how. Calvin was liked by many but loved by all who came to know him and how prideful he was. His personality and words of wisdom are ones that can never be replaced.
Calvin was a graduate of Control Data Institute, one of the premier computer technology schools during his time. He was a hard worker and more so proud to display his computer skills. Calvin's talents opened many doors for him as a young African American male living in Chicago, Illinois. A skillset that brought him and his family to live in Massachusetts and work with companies like Microsoft Office, AT&T, Apollo Solutions, Perimeter Technology, Cisco Systems and Fidelity Investments. His entrepreneurial spirit led him to, Vintek computers and where his legacy will live on forever with Ellis Consulting Services. Calvin was an enterprising person and his phone was always ringing because his work spoke for itself.
Calvin taught his daughters independence through his presence. He shared life lessons in exactly the right moments and pieces of himself at unexpected times. Those he loved are not left empty but full of the kinds of things that no one can take away; the kinds of things that nourish a grieving soul. When you think of Calvin you hear soft Jazz music playing, you see him walking along the shores of a beach, you see him playing the keyboard and singing, you see him in front a classroom teaching, you see him laughing as he covers his face, you see him happy, content and living life to the fullest. Calvin is peaceful, dynamic, enigmatic, thoughtful, contagious, understanding and a lover of life. His sarcasm, unbridled intelligence, patience, selflessness, and dad-ness are defining qualities and will be greatly missed.
