Carolyn W. (Wilson) fondly referred to as" Woody" Johnston, 86 of Bedford, NH formerly of SC and Ohio passed away on October 8, 2014 at Catholic Medical Center, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on Feb. 2, 1928 in Spring City, TN daughter of the late J.R. Wilson and Lillian (Bartholomew) Wilson.
Born in Tenn. and raised in Sharonville, near Cincinnati, Woody attended Miami University in Oxford, Ohio where she met Bill Johnston and they were married in 1947. After being a homemaker, she resumed her education and graduated from Ohio University with a Masters in Education.
For almost 15 years, she taught History at Logan High School and was appointed chairman of the LHS Social Studies Department. In the early 80s, she served as an advisor and director for several European trips taken by history-oriented students. She and her students traveled to France, Germany, England, Italy, Austria, and Switzerland. She enjoyed teaching and loved her students and strived to develop activities for students to learn inside and outside the classroom.
Beloved wife of the late William E. Johnston with whom she shared 58 years of marriage before he passed in 2005. Loving mother of Doug Johnston of Noblesville, Indiana, Bob Johnston and his wife Linda of Ottawa, Illinois, Janet Harrison and her husband Jim of Westerville, Ohio, and Christi Garrison and her husband Dave of Goffstown. Devoted grandmother of 9 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. She was pre-deceased by 4 siblings.
SEVICES: A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, October 14th at 11:30 AM in the Blessed Sacrament Church, 14 Elm Street, Manchester. Interment will follow in the NH State Veteran's Cemetery, Boscawen at 2:00 PM. Relatives and friends kindly invited to attend.
