CATHERINE TOWERS GOULDING
FRANCONIA, NH -- Catherine Towers Goulding, born March 9, 1911 in Covington KY, daughter of Agnes Gallagher Towers and Thomas R Towers, passed away on October 26, 2007 at Lafayette Center in Franconia, NH. She was raised in Kentucky and educated at LaSallette Academy, the University of Cincinnati and the Columbia School of Library Science. Her career as a librarian started in Cincinnati. Catherine went on to work in Providence RI, New York City and New Rochelle NY. Much of her career focused on historical research within those libraries.
While in Rhode Island, she met and married Stuart D Goulding. They moved to Brooklyn, NY in the 1940s and then Larchmont, NY in 1959 where she resided until the spring of this year. She spent her final months in NH near her immediate family.
Catherine was predeceased by her husband, Stuart, in 1983, by her brothers Thomas, John & Robert, as well as stepdaughters Barbara J Entwhistle and Dorothy Ryan. She is survived by her daughter, Jane G. Dickerman, Janes husband, John, grandchildren Garth & Thea, stepson, David S Goulding, brother Edward Towers and his wife Mary, sister-in-law, Rita Towers and various nieces, and nephews.
Her passion was reading newspapers, periodicals and books. She also loved the fine arts such as opera, theater and dance. When her husband was alive, they traveled far and wide in the pursuit of antiques. Catherine was generous with a number of charities especially the March of Dimes.
SERVICES A Graveside service was held on October 29, 2007 in the Beechwoods Cemetery in New Rochelle, NY with Rev. Fr. Kenney officiating.
