Cecilia Adela Abate

Cecilia Adela Abate, 58, of Manchester, NH, passed away at Elliot Hospital with her Husband and Children by her side on April 30, 2022. Born in St. Thomas, Virgin Islands, on October 31, 1963, she was the daughter of Maria Hernandez and the late Clarence Normil. She shared 23 beautiful years of marriage with her husband, Paris Abate.

Cecilia will be fondly remembered as a vibrant, free spirit. She loved the beach, cooking, dancing and singing. She loved celebrating her favorite holiday, Halloween, which also happened to be her birthday. She was a member of the Christian Family Center Church in Methuen, MA, and found great comfort in her faith. Known as “Big Mama”, family was paramount in Cecilia’s life, and she cherished nothing more than spending time with her loved ones. Nothing put a big smile on her face like being with all her grandbabies.

Cecilia is survived by her husband, Paris Abate of NH; her children, Edward Allen of TX, Charles Normil of MA, Adam Cumberbatch and his wife Nicole of NH, Mercedes Santiago and her husband Felix of NH, and her youngest daughter Melody Cumberbatch of NH; her mother, Maria Hernandez-Gonzalez of MA; her siblings, Clarence Normil of FL, Rafael Hernandez of MA, Magdalena Jones and her husband Bernard of MA, David Normil of FL, Diana Normil of St. Thomas,  DeJahnae Williams-Rainey and Shante Williams of NC; her step-children, Corey Abate of MA, Amanda Abate of SC, and Anthony Abate an his wife Rebekah of MA; as well as 16 grandchildren, several great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends. Cecilia was predeceased by her father, Clarence Normil, her step-father, Rafael Hernandez, and her sister, Maria Normil.

Cecilia’s visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 11^th from 4-7:30PM. Her children will be sharing eulogies at 7:30PM. Services to take place at Phaneuf Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 243 Hanover Street, Manchester, NH. Family and friends are invited to attend.
