Charles Philip Campo, 85, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on August 15, 2026.
He was born May 23, 1941 in Queens, New York, the son of the now deceased Philip and Josephine Campo.
He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Mary Ellen (Welsh) Campo and their four children: Christopher Campo and his wife, Andrea; Peter Campo; Sharon Campo Harman and her husband, Thomas; and Linda Campo Pierce and her wife, Kimberley. Also, his beloved sister Rosemarie Finizio and her husband, Anthony along with their sons, Steven, Andrew, and Matthew.
Charlie was an extremely proud and loving grandfather to 10 grandchildren: Sophia (Chris); Jackson, Elena, Sean (Peter); Ashley, Corey, Connor (Sharon); Andrew, Ryan, Michael (Linda). They loved their Poppi/Papa, and they brought immeasurable joy to his life. He was also blessed with two great-granddaughters, Delta and Collins (Jackson).
Throughout his 85 years, Charlie touched many lives with his humor, intelligence, kindness, and unique perspective. His Catholic faith and devotion to Mary Ellen were the foundation of his life. They inspired him to help others, offer a helping hand to countless people, and build a family legacy that will continue for generations.
Among his early accomplishments, Charlie earned his graduate and postgraduate degrees from the University of Rochester and later Penn State University. He also spent time at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, during which he met the love of his life, Mary Ellen. They married there, and soon headed off to flight school, where Charlie began his first career as a naval aviator. During that time, they welcomed their four children in just five years.
His children were blessed with a father who always made time to teach, play, listen to music, take family trips-often to the shore, be goofy (i.e. "Snow Loon"), and give his unconditional love to them and their mother.
After a successful career as an Operations Research Analyst, Charlie spent his retirement years traveling with Mary Ellen and many lifelong friends, visiting grandchildren and exploring far-off destinations, tending to his rose bushes, model trains, and making people laugh. His passion for skiing became a lifelong hobby and motivated him to remain in excellent physical shape throughout his life.
Charlie was a valued parishioner at Ste Marie's Church in Manchester, NH where he volunteered in many capacities, including as a Eucharistic Minister, with RCIA, and in Adoration. He also took great pride in helping at the VA Hospital in Manchester.
During the last several years of his life, Charlie lived with the challenges of dementia and Alzheimer's disease, surrounded by the love and care of his family.
Charlie will be deeply missed by all who knew him, but he leaves behind the legacy of a wonderful life—one to be cherished, remembered, and celebrated.
