CHARLES GARDNER COY
WOODSTOCK, NH Charles Gardner Coy, 85, of Daniel Webster Highway, Woodstock, NH passed away on November 2nd at his home.
Charles was born a son to Alford B. and Mary M. (Holmes) Coy on February 27, 1918 in Brockton, MA. He attended Brockton Schools and was a member of St. Edwards Church in Brockton.
Charles married his late wife, Lenora, in Brockton where he worked for the Brockton Enterprise Newspaper and was a member of the Newspaper Guild. He moved to Woodstock, New Hampshire in 1963 and joined St. Joseph Church. Charles was a 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus and was employed as a custodian at Lin-Wood High School from 1963 to 1976, when he retired.
After the passing of Lenora in 1995, Charles was remarried to Bette Ann Liljestrand on March 8, 1997 in Plymouth, NH. Charles was declared legally blind but still built and sold wooden toys and was self-employed with Woodstock Enterprise. In 1999 Charles became a very active member of the North Country National Federation of the Blind covering from Ashland to Berlin. He was a state board member and on the fundraising committee for this Federation. Charles was also a member of the National Association of the Blind in Concord, NH. He lived out his joy of being Santa for many children and fellow elders in 1999, volunteering his services from New Hampshire to Connecticut sharing the joy of giving. In 2002 Charles joined the Berlin/Gorham Lions Club. He was part of Site Services for Living that met in Plymouth for the last 6 years. He attended the Plymouth Assembly of God Church with his wife for the last 6 years and was a member of the Mens Ministry. Charles also sang regularly at the Golden View Nursing Home with the Mens Ministry where he brought much joy to many friends who reside there.
Surviving family includes his wife, Bette Ann Coy, of Woodstock, NH; three daughters, Cynthia Ann Thomas of Woodstock, NH, Mary Ann Schuerger of Waltham, MA, and Barbara Ann Coy of Orion, Michigan; three step-children, Brandy Salman, Rebecca Harris, and John Caravalho; six grandchildren; and two sisters, Eloise Shelter of Lakeville, MA and Grace Reed of East Bridgewater, MA. One brother and two sisters predeceased Charles.
SERVICES The family will receive friends at the Assembly of God Church in Plymouth from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 on Wednesday, November 5th. Funeral services will follow at 12:00 with Rev. Tim Katon officiating. Burial will follow in the Woodstock Cemetery.
