CHARLES A. LIAKOS MANCHESTER – Charles "Ace" Liakos, 89, died September 12, 2008, at Elliot Hospital after a period of failing health. Mr. Liakos was born in Manchester, on January 30, 1919, the son of Antonis and Kaliope (Dabou) Liakos. He was a graduate of Manchester High School Central. Mr. Liakos earned a Bachelor of Science degree from St. Anselm's College and a Master's Degree from the University of New Hampshire. He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Navy. Mr. Liakos worked for the State of New Hampshire, Department of Employment Security as an employment counselor. Later, he joined the faculty of Central High School until his retirement as a Guidance Couselor and Director of Guidance. He was a member of St. George Greek Orthodox Cathedral. He served on the Board of Directors and was a member of the NOA club and AHEPA. Mr. Liakos was also a member of the Manchester YMCA for seventy years. He loved the game of basketball. He played it from the age of nine to the age of eighty and was also a referee and coach for many years. Mr. Liakos was predeceased by his wife of 56 years, Eva (Millios) Liakos, in November of 2005. Members of his family include; his two sons, Stephen Liakos, of Bow; Philip Liakos of Manchester, and several nephews. IN HIS LIFE: In addition other family members include; his daughter-in-law, Maureen Liakos, of Bow, and two grandchildren, Kathleen and Christa Liakos. SERVICES: Calling hours will be Monday, September 15, from 3 – 6 P.M. at Phaneuf Funeral Home, 243 Hanover Street, corner of Union Street, in Manchester. A Trisagion Service will be held at 4:30 P.M. A funeral service will be Tuesday, at 1:30 P.M. at St. George Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 650 Hanover Street, in Manchester. Committal prayers and military honors will follow at Pine Grove Cemetery, in Manchester. Memorial gifts may be made to St. George Greek Orthodox Church, Beautification Fund, or Basketball Fund, 650 Hanover Street, Manchester, NH, 03104, in memory of Mr. Liakos.
