Charles H. "Charlie" Martel, Sr., 79, of 55 River Road, Manchester, died February 26, 2003, at Catholic Medical Center after a four month residency at the Veteran Medical Center Patient Care Unit. He was born in Manchester on September 4, 1923, the son of the late Henry C. and Eva Marie (Lareau) Martel and had been a lifelong resident of the Queen City. He was a graduate of Central High School and was a W.W. II Army Veteran. Charlie was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 5212 and retired in 1982 as a supervisor for Continental Bakery after 15 years of service. Mr. Martel previously worked for Genest Bakery for 23 years. He had a great love for the beach. He will always be remembered as a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. Family members include his wife of 56 years, Herta (Tarmann) Martel of Manchester, two sons, Charles H. "Chuck" Martel, Jr., of North Fayston, Vermont and Robert C. Martel of Westford, Massachusetts, a daughter, Mrs. James (Linda) Duval of New Boston, NH, nine grandchildren, one great grandson. SERVICES: Calling hours are at the Phaneuf Funeral Homes & Crematorium Chapel, 243 Hanover Street, on Saturday afternoon from 2 to 4 o'clock with the service immediately following in the funeral home chapel at 4 o'clock.
