Charlotte L. Seavey, a beloved long-time resident of Candia, passed away peacefully on July 17, 2025, just shy of her 93rd birthday.
Born in Exeter, NH on July 27, 1932, Charlotte was the daughter of the late Moses and Helen (Preston) Seavey. She grew up in Fremont along the banks of the Exeter River, where she spent her childhood swimming, boating and exploring with friends.
A 1950 graduate of Sanborn Seminary, Charlotte briefly attended nursing school before marrying the love of her life, Clyde R. Seavey. The couple settled in Candia in 1952, where they raised their two sons, the late Mark Seavey and Nathan Seavey.
Charlotte often spoke fondly of “the art of wifing,” a phrase she coined to describe her devotion to her family. She shared that the only argument she and Clyde—her husband of 57 years—ever had was over the thermostat: she liked the house cooler than he did!
Charlotte was known for her boundless heart and quick wit—qualities that made her truly unforgettable. She deeply valued staying connected with her loved ones, keeping up with family and friends through frequent phone calls and handwritten letters. Whether you stopped by her home or found a note in your mailbox, she made sure you always knew the latest news.
An active and spirited woman, Charlotte could often be seen walking the roads of Candia to stay fit. She had many passions, including baking (especially her famous “crazy cake”), knitting, solving Sudoku puzzles, attending Bible study, organizing tea parties, and completing jigsaw puzzles. She lovingly taught her grandchildren to play Parchisi, Mouse Trap and in the summer months, Croquet.
A devoted member of her church and community, Charlotte taught Sunday School and volunteered for many years at the Elliot Hospital and with the Voluntaries singing group. Whether in an official capacity or simply as a friend and neighbor, Charlotte was always ready to lend a hand—or an ear.
Above all else, Charlotte was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother. She leaves behind her son, Nathan Seavey and his wife, Cindi; granddaughters, Nicole and her husband, Dan, Erin and her husband, Kim, and Jennifer and her husband, Louis; Terry; grandsons, Brian and his wife, Christine, Jeffrey and his wife, Beth, and David and his wife, Jenna; great-grandchildren, Megan, Benjamin, Ella, Harper-Grace, Caleb, Owen, Ethan, Jara, Richard, Paxton and Camden; and her great-great-granddaughter, Lenox.
SERVICES: A celebration of her life will be held on Friday, July 25, 2025, 10:00 a.m. at the Candia Congregational Church, 1 South Road in Candia, NH.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association in Charlotte’s memory.
