Chester A. Healey, 83, of 66 Hillcrest Avenue, died at his residence on April 2, 2002. He was born in Manchester on January 16, 1919, the son of Albert LeRoy and Bridget (Welch) Healey and had been a lifelong resident of the City. He attended city schools and graduated from Central High School, Class of 1938. We was a World War II Navy Veteran, serving from 1940 - 1946 aboard the USS Gwin (433) and the USS Houston (81). He was awarded the Purple Heart and received numerous accommodations and medals including the Victory Medal, the American Area Medal, the American Defense Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, the Asiatic-Pacific Area Medal and the European-African Middle Eastern Area Medal. He was a letter carrier with the United States Postal Service for 33 years until his retirement. He had also worked at Pratte and Whitney, Textron, Rockingham Race Track and Burlington Coat Factory. He was a member of the American Legion Jutras Post, the East Side Club, the DAV, VFW and the AARP and also belonged to the Knights of Columbus Council 91. He was a parishioner of Blessed Sacrament Church and was a member of the lettercarriers union. Family memebrs include his wife of 58 years, Joan (Pepin) Healey; a daughter, K.T. Healey Collanzo of Manchester; two sons, Roger A. Healey of Hilton Head Island, SC and Jonathan Healey of Hooksett; six grandchildren and one great grandson; and several nephews, nieces and cousins. Calling hours will be at the Phaneuf Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 243 Hanover Street on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Thursday morning at 10:00 in Blessed Sacrament Church. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery with Navy military honors.
