Christopher D. MacLeod, 71, of Concord died at home on Saturday, September 17th surrounded by loving family and friends.
Chris was born in Detroit, MI on March 3, 1940, the son of the late Laurence and Ruth (Schuttenhelm) MacLeod. He moved to New Hampshire in early childhood and was educated in area schools. Following his graduation from Bishop Bradley High School, Chris proudly served his country as a Serbo-Croatian linguist in the United States Air Force Security Agency while stationed in Germany. Chris attended UNH where he studied English and later became an instructor in the English Department. In 1970 he began teaching English at Concord High School. During his tenure he co-founded the ROPE course and served as English department chairman for several years. During this time he earned his M.Ed. at the University of Southern Mississippi. Following his retirement from CHS in 1999, Chris worked in the Education Department of the New Hampshire Historical Society where he developed a deep love of New Hampshire history. Christopher cared very much for the Concord community; he served as a member of the Friends of the Public Library and as an election official in Ward 4.
In his life Christopher enjoyed hiking and bicycling as well as photography; he was also a voracious reader. Chris cared very much for his family and was incredibly proud of his wife and children's achievements. He was unwavering in his support of their interests and goals.
Chris is survived by his wife of 38 years, Leah (Satterfield) MacLeod; a son, Josiah MacLeod and his wife Rebecca of Cambridge, MA; a daughter, Elizabeth MacLeod of Concord; his sister, Cordelia MacLeod of Hooksett; sisters-in-law, Lorna Austin and Jill Satterfield and her husband Scott Rodrigue; brother-in-law Peter Satterfield and his wife Marie Straiton; several nieces and nephews; and many respected friends.
At Christopher's request there will be no services. His wish is, in lieu of flowers or memorial donations, that people undertake one last homework assignment. He asks anyone wishing to honor him and pay tribute to his life to write a short paper containing memories, be they funny, fond, bawdy, or bland and post it in the Life Stories section of this online obituary by clicking on the Life Stories tab above.
