CLIFTON H. POORE
NORWICH, VT Clifton H. Poore, 97, died on Sunday, March 1, 2009 at the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, NH following a brief illness.
Clifton was born on February 3, 1912, in Landaff, NH, the son of Harry and Agnes (Holmes) Poore. He came to Dartmouth as a young man and worked at Wig-Wam Restaurant on Main Street in Hanover. He then went to the Hanover Inn where he became Head Chef. Years later he worked at Dartmouth College in several positions, including ROTC purchasing, the power plant and with antique inventories for Baker Library and other areas of the college. He retired at Dartmouth with several letters of commendation on his achievements while employed there.
Clifton built, repaired and maintained clocks; including the steeple clock at the Norwich Congregational Church and the clock in Baker Library Tower. He enjoyed his stamp and coin collection and collecting and restoring antiques.
He was married to the former Thelma Bushway who predeceased him in January of 2008.
He is survived by his daughter, Janet P. Murphy of Sarasota, FL and Nantucket, MA; three grandchildren, Kathi Blair of Hingham, MA, Tracey Denelle of Duxbury, MA, and Roland Hopkins of South Pasadena, CA; six great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
SERVICES A graveside service will be held on Saturday, June 6, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. in the Landaff Center Cemetery with Rev. Lyn Winter officiating.
