Conrad Fernand Roy, 91, a lifelong resident of Manchester, NH, passed away peacefully on October 16, 2026, at Granite VNA Hospice House, surrounded by his family and loved ones.
Born in Manchester on March 30, 1935, Conrad was the son of the late Edward and Adrienne (Charland) Roy. One of the greatest joys of his life was sharing 72 wonderful years of marriage with his beloved wife, Claire (Denoncourt) Roy. Together, they built a life centered on family, love, and countless memories that will be treasured for generations.
Conrad was a hardworking man who took pride in everything he did. He spent 20 years working at Bee Bee Shoe before joining the City of Manchester Highway Department, where he dedicated another 23 years before retiring. Retirement never meant sitting still for Conrad. He continued working part-time as a driver for Phaneuf Funeral Homes, and always found ways to stay busy and be of service to others.
Conrad proudly served nine years in the Army National Guard, Btry A, 941st AFA B4 attaining the military rank of Sgt., was certified as a sharp shooter and loved sharing stories about his time in the service, especially his experience driving a tank. He also served as an Auxiliary Officer with the Manchester Police Department and gave his time to coaching Manchester Little League, sharing his enthusiasm for the game with his son and young players in his community.
A true jack of all trades, Conrad, also known as Connie, was happiest enjoying hobbies that he loved and was passionate about. Whether it was spending time with others, working on household projects or just plain loving life, he brought his own special energy to everything he did. He enjoyed being part of the King’s Bowling League and was a champion bowler. He was also a member of the Sisters of the Precious Blood Monastery.
As much as Conrad enjoyed staying busy, nothing meant more to him than his family. He treasured the time they spent together, especially family camping trips and Sunday drives—simple moments that became lasting memories. His love for his family and his little puppy, Princess Lilibet, was evident in the life he built, the time he gave, and the many ways he was there for those he loved. He will be remembered for his resourcefulness, his dedication, his stories, harmonica playing and, above all, the deep love he had for his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Conrad leaves behind his beloved wife, Claire Roy of Manchester; his children, Debra St. Hilaire and her husband, Rocky, of Merrimack; Donna Lavoie and her husband, Jeffrey, of Bristol; Edward Roy and his wife, Mary Ann, of Goffstown; and Lea Glickman and her husband, Ronald, of Manchester. He also leaves behind 13 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, extended family members, and many friends whose lives were enriched by knowing him.
In addition to his parents, Conrad was predeceased by his brothers, Adrien and Armand Roy, and his sisters, Nola Ransom and Lorraine Barbin.
Conrad’s life was defined by hard work, service, devotion, and an enduring love for his family. Though he will be deeply missed, the memories he created, the lessons he passed along, and the love he shared will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
Family and friends are invited to honor and celebrate Conrad’s life on Friday, November 6, 2026, at Phaneuf Funeral Homes & Crematorium, 250 Coolidge Ave., Manchester, NH. A memorial gathering will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., followed by a memorial service at 11:00 a.m.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Granite VNA Hospice for the kindness, compassion, and care they provided Conrad during his final days. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Conrad’s memory to Granite VNA (https://www.granitevna.org/).
