Conrad Charles Young was born July 12, 1936, in Moultonborough, NH, and passed away on January 8, 2025. The son of Charles Horace Eugene Young and Marjorie Eliza Parris, Conrad spent his childhood in various towns in NH and Maine due to his father’s logging business. In 1955, Conrad graduated from Tilton-Northfield HS where two life-time interests were established: art and basketball.
Conrad then attended the Van Emburge School of Commercial Art in NJ. In 1959, he married Mary Lou O’Brien, and Michelle Lynn and Conrad John were added to the family. Conrad served six months active duty in the Army National Guard.
Young Advertising Agency began in 1967 before moving to NH in 1970. Conrad joined the Pat’s Peak Ski Patrol and was President of the NH Quarter Horse Association. His love of basketball kept him on the court with pick-up teams, until, in 1998 (at age 62), he founded a seniors’ basketball team which played in National Senior Olympic competitions. His last Sr. Olympic game was in VT at age 86.
In 2007, Conrad married Penny Nelson Nixon and in 2010, he retired from his advertising agency and began his Watercolor by Conrad Young business, fulfilling a dream of painting full time. Watercolor originals and prints, notecards, and puzzles quickly grew the business. In 2016, his covered bridge watercolor paintings became the subject of his book, New Hampshire’s Historical Covered Bridges.
Conrad is survived by his wife, Penny, and his children, Michelle Mitchell and Conrad John Young, as well as his brother, Charles Young, Jr. Grandchildren include Lindsay Dutton (Dean), Emily Reifsneider, and John Reifsneider (Julie), along with many great-grandchildren. He was pre-deceased by his siblings Fletcher, Larry, Juanita, and Joanne.
