Daniel A. Gelinas, 73, of Auburn died suddenly on Monday, September 6, 2004 at Monadnock Community Hospital in Peterborough. Mr. Gelinas was born on July 9, 1931 in Manchester, son of the late Francois and Zilda (Goulet) Gelinas. He graduated from St. Anthony High School where he also served as an alter boy and attended St. Anselm College. He was a U S Air Force veteran who was stationed at Kempo Air Force Base in Korea during the Korean War. Mr. Gelinas retired form the Union Leader in 1996 where he worked as a printer for 44 years. He was an Eagle Scout and helped form the first Boy Scout troop in Auburn. He was Vice President of the Auburn Historical Association, a founding member of the former Auburn Village Players, and a former Auburn volunteer firefighter. He was an accomplished equestrian, and an avid aviation enthusiast. He enjoyed attending air shows as well as reading aviation books, enjoyed listening to music and working on cars. He loved the times he spent traveling with his wife and family. Family members include; his wife of 51 years, Mildred (Nelson) Gelinas; one son, C. Gary Gelinas of Auburn; four daughters, Kathleen Chloros of Milford, Pamela Hurley of Francestown, Janet Facella of North Hampton and Jennifer Savickas of Merrimack; nine grandchildren; three brothers, Norman Gelinas of Hampton, Arthur Gelinas of Merrimack and Gerald Gelinas of Dunbarton; many nieces and nephews, one aunt, one uncle and many cousins. Calling hours will be at Phaneuf Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 243 Hanover Street on Thursday from 6:00 to 9:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday morning at 10:00 AM in St. Peter Catholic Church in Auburn. Burial will be private and will take place at a later date at Auburn Village Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be sent in his name to the Auburn Historical Association, c/o Don Dollard, 106 Hooksett Road, Auburn, NH 03032.
