David P. Bernard, 88, of Hooksett, NH died on Tuesday, April 7, 2026 at Goffstown Nursing and Rehabilitation, in Goffstown, NH.

David was born on February 11, 1938, in Manchester, NH, the son of the late Peter J. and Valeda (Danielson) Bernard. He grew up in Manchester and attended Bishop Bradley High School, then went on to Boston College where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Business Management. He moved to Hooksett in 1965. He was a veteran and served in the United States Army.

He served as Police Commissioner in Hooksett for 13 years. He was past president of the Hooksett Youth Athletic Association (HYAA). He was on the Hooksett Heritage Commission and was a longtime active member of the Manchester Kiwanis Club.

David enjoyed a variety of hobbies and interests such as woodworking, boating, model trains, intricate model building, and logic puzzles.

Members of his family include: a daughter, Melissa Bernard of FL; a sister, Judith Briggs, and her husband, Frederick, of Londonderry, NH; a sister-in-law, Patricia Bernard of Concord, NH; and many nieces and nephews whom he dearly loved and was completely proud of. David was predeceased by his wife, Florence (Roux) Bernard, who passed away in March 2025; their son, Douglas Bernard; a brother, Carl Bernard; and a sister, Elaine Auger. He also leaves behind many special friends. His "gang" brought him much joy. Their frequent robust Pitch games and weekly luncheons were a highlight in his life. Gloria and Charlie Newton were also very special to David. They were a loving source of reciprocal support and companionship for many years.

David was very generous with his time and resources in giving to others. He would happily assist his family, friends, and community whenever needed.
