DAVID ALEXANDER RUSSELL, SR.
LITTLETON, NH David A. Russell, Sr., age 94, passed away on Saturday, March 28th at the Riverglen House.
David was born on Macomber Hill in North Jay, Maine on November 7, 1914, the only child of David Geater Russell, born in St. Nicholas, Aberdeen, Scotland, and Helen Emslie (Taylor) Russell, born in Sullivan, Maine. He graduated from Jay High School and the University of Maine (Orono).
Davids past employment included working for the Whiting Creamery in Newport, Maine, as a Milk Inspector for the State of Maine, and for Grants Dairy in Bangor, Maine. He was a member of the Odd Fellows and the Masons in Newport, Maine, the Newport Fire Department, and the Maine State Employees Association. He served as an Airplane Spotter in the Newport area during World War II. He was a Red Cross Volunteer, Past-President of the Maine State Employees Association, and he served as Moderator for Newport Town Meeting for a number of years.
David married Myrtle Helena (Alexander) in Calais, Maine on July 2, 1938 and they moved to Newport, Maine. They moved to Bangor, Maine in December 1953. Myrtle died on September 11, 1984 in Bangor, Maine, after which David moved to Portland, Maine and later moved to Littleton, NH.
David is survived by his children, Jane and her husband, Elden Lyon, Jr., Jean Wheeler, David A. Russell, Jr. and his wife, Susan McDermott, and Janice Casey; nine grandchildren, Andrea Lyon, Alyssa and husband, Michael Henderson, Davina and husband, Anthony Whitehill, Tara and husband, Samuel Mathiowetz, David A. Russell III and wife, Denise, Kimberly Russell and husband, David Young, Derrick Russell, Tracey and husband, Christopher Doyle, and Corey Russell and wife, Victoria; 14 great-grandchildren, Madeleine Henderson, Evelyn Henderson, Abigail Henderson, Lexandra Whitehill, Alexis Mathiowetz, Samuel Mathiowetz, Jr., Sebastian Russell, Andres Russell, Alexander Russell Young, William Russell, Anthony Russell, Cameron Russell, Corey Whitehill, and Michael Whitehill; and by a large extended family. He was predeceased by his wife, Myrtle, a son, Douglas Patrick Russell, and a son-in-law, David Wheeler.
SERVICES A Graveside Service will be held in the Lakeview Cemetery in Wilton, Maine on May 15th at 1:00 p.m..
