Dean Edward Ward, 59, of Hooksett NH, passed away on January 17th, 2019 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Born on May 29, 1959 to William & Gesela (Degen) Ward in Frankfurt Germany, Dean would later emigrate to the United States where he would eventually marry Helen (McDoal) Ward, with whom he spent his final years happily married.
Having served in the US Army as a helicopter medic in the 68th medical detachment for over 10 years, Dean was extremely proud of his service and contributions to his country and fellow veterans. During his service, he made countless friends and colleagues, and reinforced his love of medicine and serving people in need. He would use his passion to fuel his professional career as a nurse at both the Concord Hospital and St. Josephs Hospital. Within the workplace he was both loved and respected among his "work family," and he will be deeply missed by friends, colleagues and patients alike.
Dean loved many things, including music, fishing, gardening and being outdoors. He was known as an incredibly social person who could get along with anyone whose generosity and unselfish nature was easily seen by all. Dean was always there to serve, whether it be in the army, to his patients, friends, family or community, Dean always gave, and never expected anything back. He was a truly strong, courageous and inspiring person to all who knew him. Above all, Dean loved his wife and his family, fiercely, and he will not be forgotten.
Dean is survived by his Wife Helen (McDoal) Ward; Father William Ward; Mother Gesela (Degan) Ward; 3 Stepdaughters Alicia Jacobs, Danielle Toto & Melanie Mitchell; Stepson Justin Munoz; Sister Patty Cobb; Sister Pam Ulmer and several Nieces & Nephews. Dean was also very excited about the recent birth of his grandson Rory.
Calling hours for Dean will be held on Wednesday, January 23rd from 9:00 AM - 10:00 AM with a service beginning at 10:00 AM at Phaneuf Funeral Homes, 243 Hanover St. Manchester NH.
In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made to the American Cancer Society.
