Deitz Heins, 84, of Hudson, NH and longtime resident of Concord, passed away on February 7th after a period of failing health. He lived his early years in East Concord with his parents George and Marion Heins, and his brother Frederick (Fred) Heins. Deitz graduated from Concord High School, class of 1957 and from Nasson College, class of 1961.
He began his career with John Carter Paper Company in Providence, Rhode Island, where he lived for a few years. Missing his home state, he moved his family back to Concord where he continued to work for John Carter, which by then had become Ris Paper Company. He continued to work for Ris as a dedicated sales representative until his retirement.
Deitz committed much of his life to serving the Concord community, activities included being a member of the Kiwanis Club and the Concord property owner organizations. He could also be found ringing the Salvation Army bell at different locations around Concord during the Christmas season. Aside from his family and friends, one of his greatest joys was his role as landlord. Over the years, he owned several buildings around the city. He took great pride in the fact that his apartments and properties were kept in pristine condition. Deitz was a very patient, caring and compassionate man who treated his tenants like family- always willing to work with them. He quietly gave gifts, and he did so with a generous heart, not just for his family, but others around him.
In addition to his roles as salesman and landlord, Deitz wore other hats. He was an avid powerlifter and bodybuilder in his younger years, spending time in his barn and at local gyms lifting his way to awards- even earning the title of Mr. NH 1969. He enjoyed taking drives in his shiny, immaculate 1957 and 1963 Corvettes. Finally, Deitz wore the hat of beach lover and he retreated to Short Sands Beach in York, Maine whenever he could to spend his precious downtime enjoying family, friends, and the ocean waves.
Deitz is survived by his loving companion of 28 years, Linda Murphy of Hudson; his children Rick Heins and his wife Robin; Jennifer Heintz and her husband Clark; Sonja Heins; and the mother of his children, Cheryl (Stevenson) Heins. Grandchildren include Nicole Pascoe and husband Joshua; Amanda Dickinson and husband Ted; Krystal Searah and husband Shaun. He was predeceased by his grandson Joshua Heins. Deitz was also loved by Linda’s family: daughter Kim Kapala and husband Fred, and their children Michelle and Danielle. He also left behind a brother, Fred and his wife Jan, and seven great grandchildren.
